Skin ageing
Loss of skin firmness, more expressed wrinkles and dark spots
Skin ageing is the result of biological skin cells ageing and long years of negative
environmental effects, particularly exposure to UV-rays, the way of nutrition
and stress. In the ageing process mature skin loses
its firmness, becomes loose and saggy.
Most visible ageing changes are the result of changes in deeper skin layers
Both epidermis and dermis become thinner with the years. Reduced estrogen level
has an impact on decreased collagen formation in the dermis. The level of
enzymes decomposing the collagen fibres is increased at the same time. Loosened
and damaged collagen network results in reduced dermis density. The skin
therefore loses its firmness and more pronounced wrinkles start appearing.
With the ageing dark spots become more visible
Skin thinning is accompanied by changes in pigment cells, melanocytes. They
become bigger, but their number is decreasing. That is why pigment spots
become more visible. Exposure to UV-rays has a great impact on their formation.
